My maternal ancestors came to America in the 1800s and didn't speak English. This was a big disadvantage for them. My hope is to create equity through literacy. My goal is to empower under-served kids, who might be struggling to read, by inspiring a love of reading and learning. Additionally, by teaching our kids to believe in themselves, we can fuel their confidence to work hard toward all their goals. My hope is that we lay the foundation for success in reading and success in life. Meaningful Teens Texas Chapter set a big goal of making the world a better place, one student at a time.

I grew up in an environment that encouraged helping others. I strongly believe education to be the best gift a person can receive. Through Meaningful Teens, I am able to help those who are less fortunate than me with only my time and energy. I think it is wonderful that this charitable organization is open to teenagers because I truly believe if everyone puts in the work we can change the world for the better.

My family has always believed and instilled in me that education and communication are the most valuable catalysts to changing lives and the world for the better. A couple of years ago while being involved in a charitable volunteer program I interacted(tried to) with a beneficiary family who couldn’t communicate in English. At the end of the project that year, they wanted to express their gratitude for my involvement, but all they could say was “Thank You” in English. That was the moment when I realized I wanted to do much more than just helping them short term. I hoped to equip them with the freedom to communicate and go to school and find better jobs. I envisioned to be the catalyst to help all who needed aid in ELL communication and education. I committed to make the change in my community and beyond in my own small way. Thus started this journey to be involved with this amazing organization- MT and the start of the San Antonio chapter.

Through the San Antonio chapter we hope to empower families and spread bilingual education and communication skills in our communities where it's needed the most.
