  1. 9th Grade: English 1, Algebra 1, Foreign Language 1, Biology, Elective/VPA, PE 

  2. 10th Grade: English 2, Geometry, Foreign Language 2, History, Science, Elective/VPA, PE

  3. 11th Grade: English 3, Algebra 2, Foreign Language 3, History, Chemistry, Elective

  4. 12th Grade: English 4, Math Analysis or Precalculus (Statistics or Financial Math does not fulfill this requirement ) Government/Economics, Elective, Elective

B. Plan Two - Example STEM High School Schedule

Early Academic Outreach Program

Bay Area college prep program (Alameda, Contra Costa, San Francisco and Solano counties) to empower underserved students and prepare them for college and career success. Apply Spring of 9th grade. Must have completed Algebra. 90% of students go onto higher education immediately following high school.

The California Student Opportunity and Access Program (CAL-SOAP)

Postsecondary education and financial aid while raising the achievement levels of low-income, elementary and secondary school students or geographic regions with documented low-eligibility or college participation rates, and who are first in their families to attend college. Has largest Bilingual College Fair in Northern CA

UC Berkeley Academic Talent Development Program (ATDP)

UC Berkeley cannot arrange housing.

Non Profit AfterSchool Programs

Ascend  is an Expeditionary Learning Outward Bound  K-8school that collaborates closely with the Museum of Children’s Art (MOCHA), the Oakland Youth Chorus, and Alameda County Office of Education. Family involvement and community partnerships play a critical role at ASCEND. We work closely with Oakland Community Organizations and the Bay Area Coalition for Equitable Schools. Ascend is 80% Latino, 8% Asian, 6% African American, 5% Multi-Racial, and 1% Filipino.

    3. Family’s taxable income must meet Federal TRIO Low-Income Levels or the family receives federal or state assistance such as food stamps, free lunch, AFDC, Cal-Works, Section 8, etc.

  4. Upward Bound Housing 

    1. provides homeless families with housing and supportive services to suit their specific needs. The programs are designed to empower homeless parents and their children to obtain housing stability, build healthy relationships, and enjoy emotional and financial well-being . A team of professional staff offers an array of services in housing, employment and evidence-based, trauma-informed care to over 200 families annually. Program services are in Santa Monica, Culver City, Compton and South Los Angeles.

  5. Questbridge  High school seniors who have shown outstanding academic ability despite financial challenges. Top 5-10% of graduating class 1280/27 on standardized tests. Finalists typically come from households earning less than $65,000 annually for a typical family of four 

  6. MESA was born out of the concern for the lack of opportunity for African American students. MESA serves over 350 middle and high schools, 40 community colleges and 13 universities in California.
