Community College Plan
In general, a transfer student is one who begins their college academic career at one institution (usually community college), earns some credits through completion of coursework, and then decides for whatever reason to transfer to a different school to finish their education. As long as you graduate with a high school diploma or GED, you can go to a two year California community college for free. This is for California residents.
TAG Program
If you want to transfer to a UC or Cal State, please consider the TAG Program
A. Do not take community college classes before speaking to community college counselor if you want to participate in the TAG Program. Often you will need take classes across multiple community colleges in order to finish in 2 years.
B. This is a program that offers students from a community college guaranteed admissions to several colleges and universities, usually one year prior to transfer.
C. Once you are accepted into the TAG Program, every community college has the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) series of courses to complete in order to satisfy freshman/sophomore level general education requirements before transferring to most colleges and majors at UC Campuses. Be sure to look at YOUR SPECIFIC SCHOOL'S IGETC class requirements to satisfy the UC College pathway.
D. Based on the school and the major you would like to study, you need to go to the Assist website to meet all the requirements to get into that major.
